Hand Crafted Root Beer
Handcrafted Root Beer is a beverage made by fermenting an infusion of roots, barks, and herbs (e.g. wintergreen, dandelion root, anise) as well as a variety of sweeteners (e.g. cane sugar, maple syrup, honey, or corn syrup). The resulting root beer, has a uniquely sweet, herbaceous, and medicinal flavor, which comes predominately from its main ingredient, sassafras root.
Hand Crafted Root Beer’s commercial origin dates back to Charles Hires, who in 1876 became the first person to market root beer on a national level. Today, nearly 100 American breweries produce handcrafted root beer, each with their unique recipe.
