In 2003, Slow Food has helped secure 10,000 orders for heritage turkeys including 2,000 in California.

SUMMER BOUNTY CELEBRATION

Slow Food U.S.A. and COPIA join together to present a very special summer celebration at COPIA on Sunday, August 25, 2002, from 10am to 5pm. A walk-around organic produce tasting in COPIA's South Garden, six exceptional tasting seminars, a selection of winning short films from the Slow Food Film Festival and more!

This exciting collaboration will offer the chance to learn about the Slow Food movement, an international group dedicated to rediscovering the flavors of regional cooking, to supporting sustainable living and to keeping close ties to nature and the environment. Events include:

South Garden Walk-Around Tasting, 12:00 to 4:00 pm
Join Slow Food USA for a walk-around tasting featuring the most delicious seasonal foods of Northern California provided and served by the producers themselves. A selection of Napa Valley wineries will also be on hand to offer tastes of wine. COPIA Garden goodies also featured. $20 (plus general admission). Children under six free. No COPIA member discount available.

Slow Food Tasting Seminars
$36 Slow Food and COPIA members; $40 non-members (includes general admission). All seminars 75 minutes. Advanced enrollment strongly recommended; seating limited.

  • Join author Marion Cunningham and author/restaurateur Alice Waters for a tasting of The Communal Table: Cooking Demonstrations and Tastes. 11:00am
  • June Taylor of June Taylor Preserves will lead a seminar on seasonal preserves and jam making including flower infusions. 11:30am
  • Enjoy tastes of Seasonal Gazpachos in a tasting led by author Paula Wolfert. 1:00pm
  • Join Master Cheddar Makers from England who will offer a comparative tasting of English and Scottish cheddars with California and Vermont cheddars. 1:30pm
  • Sue Connely and Peg Smith of Artisan Cheese in San Francisco will lead a tasting of local summer cheeses from goat to buffalo. 3:00pm
  • Joanne Weir, author and chef, will conduct a tasting on tomato varieties. 3:00pm

Authors presenting during our festival will be available to sign copies of their most recent books.

Slow Food on Film Festival Highlights
Join Slow Food for the U.S. premier of the winning films from this year's Slow Food on Film, the first film festival ever dedicated to the love of food. Featured guests include the Festival's Artistic Director, Stefano Sardo. Included with admission. 11:00am and 3:00pm

Heirloom Melons with Amy Goldman
Amy Goldman, author of Heirloom Melons presents a visual presentation of melons in the Theater. Book signing and organic melon tasting following the event. Included with admission. 1:00pm (60 min.)

COPIA General Admission is included in the price of the Tasting Seminars. Walk-Around Tasting program price does not include admission.

Slow Food members who do not register for a Tasting Seminar will receive a special reduced admission of $10 adults, seniors (62+) and students (13-17 or with I.D.). Children 6-12 are $7.50. General Admission tickets are sold at the door on the day of the event.

Advanced enrollment is strongly recommended for the Tasting Seminars and the Walk-Around Tasting and are available on our website www.copia.org (on the Calendar page, see August 25) for a $1.50 convenience fee per ticket. Tickets may also be purchased by phone 707-259-1600 (888-51-COPIA) 9:00 am - 5:00 pm daily without a service charge.

COPIA: The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts is located at 500 First Street in downtown Napa, between Soscol Ave. and the Silverado Trail. Free parking is available, but limited. Street parking around the center is available.
