EVENT ADVISORY - Traditional New England Feast

WHAT: The Boston Convivium of Slow Food and Chef Jasper White of Summer Shack present a five-course traditional New England feast

WHEN: Tuesday, February 5, 2002. Cocktails begin at 6:00 pm

Chef Jasper White, known for his culinary talents using traditional New England ingredients, will collaborate with Slow Food Boston, food historian Sandy Oliver and cookbook author/Maine home cook Karyl Bannister to assemble a 5-course New England feast February 5th, 2001 at his Summer Shack in Cambridge, MA. Using locally grown produce, seafood harvested from the nearby coast and indigenous products made with time-honored techniques, White, Oliver and Bannister will embrace Slow Food philosophies to recreate a New England feast typical of the region.

Chef White's menu will feature traditional New England food staples such as salt cod, chowders, farmhouse desserts, and other dishes commonly found on the table of our local ancestors. Guests will have the opportunity to hear Sandy Oliver and Karyl Bannister speak about pertinent culinary history and traditions, as well as meet several of the local producers and purveyors who contributed to the event.

Organized by the Boston Convivium of Slow Food, this dinner is open to both members and the general public. The Boston Convivium is part of the 60,000-member international Slow Food Movement dedicated to protecting and promoting local traditions and culinary heritage.
