Education Partnerships

Slow Food International is the core organizing entity of the global Slow Food movement. Based in Bra, Italy, SFI plans and promotes the development of the network and projects worldwide. Slow Food USA is a national association of SFI.

Slow Food Turtle Island Association is a Native-led coalition of leaders in the Indigenous food sovereignty movement. Slow Food USA is an ally and partner.

The Food Systems Leadership Network is a national peer learning community that connects current and emerging leaders, strengthens individual and collective leadership capacity, and fosters collaboration across communities. The goal of the network is to accelerate the realization of a just, equitable, and sustainable food system that generates good food, health, and opportunity for all. Slow Food USA is a member and active participant.

Policy and Advocacy Partnerships

The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) is an alliance of grassroots organizations that advocates for federal policy reform to advance the sustainability of agriculture, food systems, natural resources, and rural communities. Slow Food USA is a represented member.

Don’t Cage Our Oceans is a coalition of diverse organizations working together to stop the development of offshore finfish farming in the United States through federal law, policies, and coalition building. DCO2 uplifts values-based seafood systems led by local communities. Slow Food USA is a member.

BIODIVERSITY AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY Partnerships

When they first opened their doors in 2011, Camas Country Mill was the first stone grist mill of their kind to operate in the Willamette Valley in nearly eighty years. This mid scale mill was borne of a dream to secure the local grain and legume supply for the Pacific Northwest, supporting a vibrant regional grain economy. Slow Food USA is a partner with Camas Country Mill for the Plant a Seed campaign.

The Culinary Breeding Network mission is to build communities of plant breeders, seed growers, farmers, chefs, retailers, distributors and other stakeholders to improve quality in vegetables, fruits and grains. Slow Food USA is a programs partner.

The purpose of Experimental Farm Network is to drive innovation in truly sustainable agriculture by facilitating collaboration on plant breeding and other research. Their focus is on using traditional methods to develop new crops and new varieties of old crops suited for organic and agroecological production, especially carbon-sequestering perennial staple crops. EFN functions as a cooperative and works closely with Slow Food USA to source sustainable seed for the Plant a Seed campaign.

Janie’s Mill has become a leader in Midwest sustainable grain production for high quality stone milled flours. They work closely with bakers and producers to ensure that everyone is getting the highest quality whole grain flours from fellow grain artisans intent on keeping the regional grain economy working for all. They feature many Ark of Taste grains in their product line and are a sponsor of the Plant a Seed campaign for 2024. 

Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance is a Native-led coalition of leaders in the Indigenous food sovereignty movement. Slow Food USA is an ally and partner.

Nature and Nurture Seeds is a farm-based small seed company that provides high-quality, heirloom, organic & non-GMO seeds for diverse farms and gardens; they are based near Ann Arbor, MI. They specialize in seeds for short seasons that are adapted to growing in the north and Midwest, and steward many Ark of Taste seeds. They partner with Slow Food USA to donate seed to school gardens through the Plant a Seed campaign.

Seed Savers Exchange is a nonprofit organization based in Decorah, Iowa, that preserves heirloom plant varieties through regeneration, distribution and seed exchange. It is one of the largest nongovernmental seed banks in the United States. Slow Food USA is a recipient of seed donations from SSE.

Sow True Seed is a small seed company that is a worker owned cooperative based in Asheville, NC. They work with farmers to supply non-GMO organic over conventional seed. They strive to make gardening approachable for everyone and offer open-pollinated seed in support of sustainable and regenerative food production and agriculture, aiding a sense of empowerment and ownership of food supply. Sow True Seed partners with Slow Food USA for the Plant a Seed campaign.

True Leaf Market is an independent, non-GMO seed company that serves as the brand steward for Kitazawa Seed, the oldest continuously running seed company in the US. Slow Food USA is a recipient of seed donations from Kitazawa.

Ujamaa Cooperative Farming Alliance is a collective of emergent and seasoned BIPOC growers, farmers, and gardeners who cultivate and distribute heirloom seeds as well as grow culturally meaningful crops for food, healing, and textiles. Slow Food USA is a partner showcasing seed and stories from Ujamaa for the Plant a Seed campaign. 

Utopian Seed Project + Crop Stories is a nonprofit committed to trialing crops and varieties in the Southeast to support and celebrate diversity in food and farming. Crop Stories is the publishing arm of this organization, producing crop zines. Slow Food USA expands their reach by sharing their stories with our network through our Slow Shop.
