Learn to make mochi with Kaori Becker, author of Mochi Magic and a cook specializing in Japanese cuisine. Growing up “hapa” (half-Japanese) in the Bay Area, she was drawn to her mother’s Japanese home cooking, especially sweets and baked goods. Together with her mother, Becker runs Kaori’s Kitchen, a Bay Area cooking school featuring popular mochi classes. Becker also co-owns The Mochi Shop in Columbus, Ohio.
Ingredients and Materials Needed to Make White Microwave Mochi filled with Strawberries and Red Bean or Nutella:
- 1 lb box mochiko (available online or at Asian, Korean or Japanese grocery stores)
-sweet red bean paste in bag (available online or at Asian, Korean or Japanese grocery store) OR Nutella instead of red bean paste - 5 fresh strawberries
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- Large cutting board
- Pastry brush (optional)
