Slow Food Charlotte is working with Friendship Trays to build an educational and demonstration garden which will be used by the Community Culinary School to teach and supplement the meals-on-wheels program in Charlotte.  The school educates people who experience barriers to employment, and the garden’s bounty will supplement meals sent to low-income families, the elderly, the homebound and ailing.

This project has been selected as one of the 50 finalists in Tom’s of Maine’s annual “50 States of Good” grant program where they award 5 projects $20,000 each to continue working on their vision. The final 50 projects are opened to a month-long Internet voting campaign in October where the top 5 projects are determined by a tally of votes.

Take a minute now for this worthwhile project and visit Tom’s of Maine’s web site to vote for Slow Food Charlotte! (Slow Food Charlotte’s project is listed as the 11th entry)  “The nutty part is that one can vote everyday,” says chapter leader Thom Duncan.  What Thom means is, please vote for the chapter every day from now through October 30 so this demonstration garden will become a reality!
