Once again we are excited to share this partnership and the opportunity to join with the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Shaw Nature Reserve staff for an evening of delicious food and conviviality. The Slow the Fork Down – Taco Bar and Nature Hike is Sun., Aug. 20, 2023, starting at 5 p.m. on the scenic grounds of the Dana Brown Overnight Center.
Guests will enjoy a delectable array of authentic Mexican fare created with a variety of seasonal and local ingredients. Our friend, Chef Alex Henry of “SURESTE” is curating a menu of traditional favorites as well as unique dishes for our Slow the Fork Down Taco Bar.
The menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free options
If you would like to enjoy a libation other than our specialty non-alcohol beverages, please BYOB.
We are thrilled that Salt of the Earth will be joining us and providing music for the evening.
During the evening, as day fades into night guests can enjoy a self-guided hike of about 1.5 miles through the prairie to the wetland over varied terrain. Watch for bats, listen for owls, learn about Missouri habitats, and use all of your senses to explore. Shaw Nature Reserve staff will be available for additional information and to answer any questions. All ages are welcome. A jogging stroller or baby carrier is encouraged for 3 years old and younger. Flashlights welcome.
The event concludes back at the Assembly building with dessert, a farewell, and the trip home.
We are planning this as a “mostly” outdoor event. There are a number of picnic tables and a lot of shade trees at the venue. Indoor space will be ready for inclement weather. Our capacity for guests is limited based on the occupancy permitted in the Assembly building. Indoor restrooms are available.
Whether you’re seeking a peaceful escape or a fun-filled adventure, Slow the Fork Down has it all. Grab your friends and family, and join us for an unforgettable evening of good food, good music, great company, and the wonders of nature.
Get your tickets soon. This is sure to sell out.
This event is a fundraiser for our not-for-profit Slow Food St Louis chapter. We are in the midst of raising money for a special project that we will be sharing about during this event. A portion of the ticket sales will also be donated to Shaw Nature Reserve.
As always, thank you for your support.
