Did you know that there is a thriving school garden program at many DC public schools? Join us for a leisurely bicycle tour of three wonderful school gardens in Anacostia and Southwest, followed by an informal happy hour.
The school garden bike tour is co-sponsored by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education’s School Gardens Program, District Hardware & Bike, and Slow Food DC, with the aim of highlighting budding school gardens throughout the city.
We’ll meet at District Hardware at the Wharf, where you can fuel up on coffee and pastries before we head out. From there, we’ll set off to explore some incredible school garden spaces, and experience the sights and smells of last summer bounty. At one of the stops, we’ll even help with some late season planting! After our last stop, there will be the option of biking to a nearby location for an informal happy hour.
For our October 2019 tour, we will visit the following school gardens:
Thurgood Marshall Academy PCS- 2427 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, SE
Van Ness Elementary School – 1150 5th Street, SE
Watkins Elementary School – 420 12th Street, SE
While this event is free, we ask that participants please pre-register and consider an optional $10 donation that will go directly to the school garden programs visited on the tour.
We hope you will join us for a beautiful fall morning bike ride to support DC’s School Gardens Program!
