LET’S NOURISH OUR CONNECTIONS AND CONNECT OUR FOODWAYS TOGETHER

The 2023 Membership Drive is a key opportunity to share your chapter’s successes and hopes with your geographic community and inspire individuals and small businesses to join you in fighting for good, clean and fair food for all. Thank you for joining us in nourishing our connections and connecting our foodways.

Terra Madre Day 2023 — Give What You Can all weekend long

Link: https://slowfoodusa.org/terra-madre-day-2023

Each year, Terra Madre Day (Sunday, Dec. 10) is an opportunity to honor the global Slow Food network that’s building a path toward good, clean and fair food for all! We will designate Friday, Dec. 8 through Sunday, Dec. 10 as a Give What You Can Day WEEKEND to help chapters grow their local communities and raise funds to support our network. The end of the year is always a great time to ask for a last gift.

Share the good news!

– Send an email to your entire network on the morning of Friday, Dec. 8 (and maybe a “last chance” email on Sunday too!)
– Post about Give What You Can Day at least one time across all your social media channels
– Reach out to your personal network to tell folx why you are part of the Slow Food network and why they should join

Here’s a sample message

Celebrate Terra Madre Day by becoming a member of our chapter for as little as $1 — today only!

Terra Madre Day is a global Slow Food day of action for the 1 million people around the world who are fighting for good, clean and fair food for all. It’s a time to celebrate the connections between producers, makers, farmers, consumers and policymakers. It’s also time to dream of next year’s Terra Madre Salone del Gusto, which will bring thousands of food actiists from around the world together to plan the future of the movement.

But all of this is only possible with support from members, who make an annual contribution to fuel our work as weavers, builders, storytellers and distruptors.

Normally, our membership is $60, but all weekend long, you can become a member of Slow Food USA and our chapter for the amount that fits your budget. Whether you want to scale up or scale down that membership rate, it’s up to you!

Join our movement. Become a member today!

Core messages
  • Memberships support the work of advancing joy and justice in our foodways and achieving good, lean and fair food for all.
How do we actionize this work that’s fueled by our members?
    • We are weavers. Slow Food USA is a driving force to connect the many hands that touch our food, and reject the industrialized segmentation of our food web.
    • We are builders. Join us in fostering solidarity and cultivating relationships that help communities realize their food sovereignty goals.
    • We are storytellers. We tell stories of food, people and places that inspire curiosity, compassion and collective action.
    • We are disruptors. Our network inspires bold action to break down social and political barriers to good food access.
    • The Slow Food movement in the US focuses on five core areas of impact: Embracing racial equity and justice, nourishing cultural and biological diversity, increasing access to food and nutrition, mobilizing people and communities, and advancing policies that transform food systems.
  • We need to grow our membership to bring new ideas and more lived experiences to the table that we are building together, slowly but surely. We must achieve true food justice and racial equity in our network and our world.
  • Our membership rates will increase in January 2024. Consider joining today so you can preserve this year’s membership rates!
  • Membership dollars fuel our 80+ volunteer led chapters. Your membership helps our local Slow Food teams build connections and connect foodways across the continent.

    STRATEGIES FOR YOUR CHAPTER

Becoming a good ancestor to future generations starts now, as hand in hand we create a liberatory and joyful future for all. We strive to center reciprocity, kinship and the interconnectedness of all beings. We look to the movements for Indigenous sovereignty and Black liberation in particular — to their traditional knowledge and strong leadership as guiding lights along the path to healing and reconciliation. This year we focus on nourishing our connections and connecting our foodways.

    Email

    • Send a dedicated email or two to your whole email list sharing our message of interconnectedness and reciprocity. Share an update of what you’ve been up to in 2022 and what you’re looking forward to in the coming year. Inspire your network to work toward a liberatory and joyful future at your chapter level!

    Social media

    • Share some of these messages on your social media channels — or, better yet, share messages about what your chapter is doing to embrace Slow Food values in your geographic area.
    • Please feel free to copy/paste any of the text from this page as captions for posts!
    • Consider boosting some of your posts to new audiences in your area or friends of people who follow you on social media. Need help? Contact Communications Director Brian Solem for help.

     Other ideas

    • Host an outdoor event or table at a local farmer’s market to connect with Slow Food fans old and new.
    • Conduct a small phone bank session where a few members of your board reach out to former members of your chapter to see if they want to rejoin the movement
    • Send ‘snail mail’ to like-minded local and small businesses thanking them for supporting the local economy and jobs and invite them to become a member of Slow Food USA.
