FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SLOW FOOD USA WELCOMES KRIS REID AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Brooklyn, NY (January 2, 2025) — Slow Food USA is excited to announce Kris Reid as its new executive director. As a global network and nonprofit championing food advocacy, Slow Food works to promote Good, Clean and Fair Food for All. With decades of leadership experience, Kris is poised to guide the organization into a vibrant future rooted in its mission, values and the ideals of the Slow Food Manifesto and Theory of Change (TOC).

“My career was inspired by Slow Food in the early 2000s,” says Reid. “I launched my chef career in 2006 to embrace the mission of ‘Good, Clean and Fair Food for All’ and pushed hard on sustainable food systems in my region. As a mother and chef, my relationship with food has been intimate. Growing food and managing some of my own means of production has added joy and prosperity to my family. I see a future of healthy communities woven together through robust and meaningful relationships. Over the years, my connections to farmers and makers became the spark that set the fire for Piedmont Culinary Guild (PCG). PCG has been a passion project, born from the inspiration I drew from Slow Food. It is the highest honor of my career, and what I consider my life’s work, to be invited to join the Slow Food team and lead the movement toward a promising food future for us all.”

With extensive experience as a chef, director of operations, chief operating officer and executive director, Reid has built a career centered on fostering deep, long-lasting community relationships. In her new role, she plans to empower individual members, support chapter leaders with sustainable strategies and uphold values like community representation, experimentation, mindfulness, gratitude and equity, inclusion and justice, as detailed in the Theory of Change.

“We are entering an exciting new chapter of growth and renewal. While transitions bring change, we are confident in our direction and committed to working closely with our chapters to foster joy, collaboration, and a shared vision for a vibrant future,” says Slow Food USA Board.

Please join us in welcoming Kris Reid to the team. Be sure to check out our social media channels in the next few weeks to learn about Kris and her vision of where to take Slow Food USA next.
